They moved where others couldn't. The Vietnamese Rangers — trained by U.S. Army Special Forces and Ranger advisers — were the sharp edge of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. Infiltrating deep behind enemy lines on search-and-destroy missions, they evolved from counter-insurgency specialists into a full-spectrum swing force capable of retaking captured ground when no one else could.
During Vietnamization, they absorbed the Civilian Irregular Defense Group battalions and held the remote outposts of the Central Highlands — the last line between the highlands and collapse.
