The Ranger Tab Legacy
Authorized October 30, 1950 by the Chief of Staff, Army, the Ranger Tab is one of the most respected qualification tabs in the U.S. military — awarded only upon completion of the Army's most demanding leadership course.
Ranger School: Three Phases, One Standard
- Benning Phase — Fort Moore, GA: Fundamentals of small unit tactics
- Mountain Phase — Dahlonega, GA: Leadership under extreme physical stress
- Florida Phase — Eglin AFB: Sustained combat operations in austere environments
Students operate on minimal food and sleep, conducting continuous patrols and leadership rotations. Only those who demonstrate exceptional leadership under pressure earn the right to wear the tab.
