The USS New York (LPD-21) is unlike any other warship in the United States Navy. Her bow stem was cast from 7.5 tons of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center — a deliberate act of remembrance that transformed tragedy into strength. Commissioned in 2009, she is a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship built to project power, deliver Marines into harm’s way, and carry the memory of September 11th into every port she enters.
