USS Asheville (PG-84) — The Name That Defined a Class
When the Navy needed a new generation of fast, lethal patrol gunboats, they built the USS Asheville (PG-84) first — and named the entire class after her. That’s not a footnote. That’s a legacy. Capable of speeds exceeding 40 knots and armed for close-quarters combat, the Asheville-class gunboats were unlike anything else in the fleet. This Classic tee carries that legacy forward for every veteran, collector, and naval history enthusiast who knows the name.

The Legacy of PG-84
Commissioned in 1966, USS Asheville (PG-84) was the first of 17 Asheville-class patrol gunboats — fast attack craft that served in Vietnam, the Mediterranean, and across the Pacific. Displacing just 225 tons but packing a 3-inch gun, a 40mm cannon, and later Harpoon anti-ship missiles, these boats proved that size is no measure of lethality. USS Asheville set the standard that every ship in her class was built to meet. Her name lives on in the sailors who served aboard her and the legacy she left behind.
