The 1st Armored Division is one of the oldest and most recognizable armored divisions in the U.S. Army, activated on July 15, 1940, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. It was the first armored division to see combat during World War II, participating in significant operations such as the North African Campaign and the Italian Campaign. The division is currently stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and consists of approximately 17,000 soldiers equipped with a variety of combat capabilities, including tanks, artillery, and aviation units.
