The 2nd Armored Division, nicknamed "Hell on Wheels", was a prominent unit of the U.S. Army, notable for its significant contributions during World War II and later service during the Cold War. Formed in 1940, the division participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy, playing a key role in the liberation of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. After the war, it was stationed in West Germany for much of the Cold War and also saw action in the Persian Gulf War. The division was inactivated in 1995.
