The 56th Artillery Command was a U.S. Army unit primarily known for its role in the Pershing II missile system. The command was deactivated in 1991, shortly after the last Pershing II launcher was decommissioned. A notable event in its history was a tragic Pershing missile explosion in Heilbronn, Germany, in 1985 that killed three U.S. soldiers, which the 56th Artillery Command and the city of Heilbronn have since honored.
