he 316th Cavalry, originally constituted as the 8th Tank Destroyer Group, has a history that includes World War II service and subsequent reorganizations and re-designations. It served in Europe during WWII, participating in campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. After the war, it was redesignated multiple times, eventually becoming the 316th Cavalry Brigade, and now serves as the headquarters for training soldiers in the Armor branch at Fort Knox.
