The History
Established in 1866, the 10th Cavalry Regiment was one of the original Buffalo Soldier units — African American soldiers who served with distinction across the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, and both World Wars. The name “Buffalo Soldiers,” given by the Plains tribes they faced, became a mark of respect the regiment carried with pride. Ready and Forward remains the regiment’s motto to this day: a declaration of the resolve and forward momentum that defined these soldiers at every post and every campaign.
