The Campaign to Liberate Syria
When ISIS seized vast territories across Syria, including the city of Raqqa which became the terrorist organization's self-declared capital, American and coalition forces launched operations to support Syrian Democratic Forces in defeating ISIS. Warriors deployed as advisors, special operations forces, and air support to help partner forces reclaim Syria from ISIS control.
The fight to liberate Syria from ISIS required courage, skill, and sacrifice. American service members worked alongside Syrian Democratic Forces, Kurdish YPG/YPJ fighters, and Arab tribal forces to systematically dismantle the terrorist organization. American special operations forces, advisors, and air support enabled Syrian Democratic Forces to fight block by block, building by building, to free the city from ISIS control. The battle required months of intense urban combat and demonstrated the courage and determination of coalition forces and their partners.
