353d Regiment Lineage

Constituted 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 353d Infantry and assigned to the 89th Division

Organized 27 August 1917 at Camp Funston, Kansas

Demobilized 2 June 1919 at Camp Funston, Kansas

Reconstituted 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 353d Infantry and assigned to the 89th Division (later redesignated as the 89th Infantry Division)

Organized in November 1921 with Headquarters at Wichita, Kansas

Ordered into active military service 15 July 1942 and reorganized at Camp Carson, Colorado

Inactivated 18 December 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia

Activated 31 January 1947 with Headquarters at Wichita, Kansas

(Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)

Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1959 as the 353d Regiment (Basic Combat Training), an element of the 89th Division (Training), with Headquarters at Wichita, Kansas

Reorganized 31 January 1968 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 89th Division (Training); Headquarters, 353d Regiment, concurrently inactivated at Wichita, Kansas

Battalions inactivated 1 March 1974 as follows: 1st Battalion at Great Bend, Kansas; 2d Battalion at Salina, Kansas; 3d Battalion at Dodge City, Kansas

1st and 2d Battalions relieved 16 March 1985 from assignment to the 89th Division (Training) and activated at El Dorado, Arkansas, and Homewood, Illinois, respectively

Regiment reorganized 1 October 1985 to consist of the 1st Battalion and the 2d Battalion, an element of the 85th Division (Training)

(1st and 2d Battalions ordered into active military service 22 January 1991 at home stations; released from active military service 26 and 31 March 1991 and reverted to reserve status)

Regiment reorganized 16 September 1993 to consist of the 1st Battalion and the 2d Battalion, an element of the 84th Division (Training)

Regiment reorganized 1 October 1994 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 95th Division (Training), and the 2d Battalion, an element of the 84th Division (Training)

Battalions inactivated 15 September 1997 as follows: 1st Battalion at El Dorado, Arkansas, and relieved from assignment to the 95th Division (Training); 2d Battalion at Homewood, Illinois, and relieved from assignment to the 84th Division (Training)

Regiment withdrawn from the Army Reserve 5 March 2008 and allotted to the Regular Army

1st, 2d, 3d, 4th, 5th, and 6th Battalions activated 1 March 2009 at Fort Polk, Louisiana
