The 30th Infantry Division, nicknamed "Old Hickory", was a National Guard unit that served with distinction in both World War I and World War II. It was particularly known for its intense combat experience in World War II, where it fought for 282 days from June 1944 to April 1945. The division was lauded by historians for its effectiveness and consistency in battle, earning the moniker "Roosevelt's SS" from the Germans due to its fierce fighting spirit. The 30th Infantry Division's lineage continues today as the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team, part of the North Carolina National Guard.
