Die-Cut Magnets - Army - US Paratrooper - 18th Fires Brigade
US paratrooper history began with a Parachute Test Platoon formed in 1940, which conducted the first jump on August 16, 1940, and became the basis for the first parachute combat unit, the 501st Parachute Battalion. These elite soldiers were used in World War II to seize strategic points behind enemy lines, with early combat operations including the North African invasion (Operation Torch) and the Sicily invasion (Operation Husky). The training facility at Fort Benning, Georgia, eventually became the US Army Airborne School.
