The 45th Field Artillery Brigade (now the 45th Fires Brigade) of the Oklahoma Army National Guard was activated in 1968 as the 45th Field Artillery Group, later redesignated the 45th Field Artillery Brigade in the 1980s, and finally the 45th Fires Brigade in 2008 during Army Transformation. Its history can be traced back to the post-World War I reorganization of Oklahoma's artillery units, with elements of the 158th Field Artillery Regiment forming the core of today's brigade. The brigade honors the legacy of the 45th Infantry Division and is known as "Red Thunder Nation".
