The 1st Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, known as the "Copperheads," is a U.S. Army unit with a long history of service since its formation in 1916, participating in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and recent deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, it serves as a General Support Reinforcing battalion, typically providing artillery support to the 1st Cavalry Division, and operates M109A6 Paladin howitzers.
