The "1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment" can refer to two distinct US Army units: The 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment's 1st Battalion, activated in 1942 as part of an all-Filipino regiment during WWII, which trained in California before deploying to the Pacific; and the current 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, part of the US Army's 2nd Infantry Division, which has a different history of service. The 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment was a unique WWII-era unit composed of Filipino Americans, while the current 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment has an extensive history, including its service in the Iraq War.
