The 15th Cavalry Regiment was formed in the Regular Army in 1901 and was involved in the Philippine Insurrection and Cuban Pacification, later participating in the hunt for Pancho Villa and World War I-era border patrols. It later served in WWII as a mechanized unit, seeing action during the Louisiana Maneuvers before deployment to Europe. After the war, its elements were reorganized, with parts of the regiment serving in the Korean War, Vietnam, and for post-war stability in Germany. Today, the 15th Cavalry Regiment continues to serve as a training unit for cavalry scouts at Fort Benning, Georgia.
