The 39th Infantry Regiment, composed of Black soldiers known as Buffalo Soldiers, was stationed at Fort Clark, Texas, after the Civil WarThese regiments were formed following the war to help rebuild the nation and fight on the Western frontier. The 39th and 40th Infantry Regiments were later reorganized into the 24th Infantry Regiment, with its headquarters at Fort Clark. The Buffalo Soldiers played a significant role in the westward expansion and frontier defense, earning a reputation for their service and resilience.
