Die-Cut Magnets - Map - Vietnam Units - 3 wo DS

The 187th Infantry Regiment, known as the "Rakkasans," has a distinguished history as the only airborne regiment to serve in every major U.S. conflict since airborne warfare began, participating in combat in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and Afghanistan/Iraq. They are unique for serving in all forms of airborne warfare—airborne, glider, parachute, and air assault—and earned their name, meaning "falling umbrella," during the occupation of Japan after WWII. Their legacy includes being the first airborne unit to conduct a combat amphibious landing, the only airborne force to meet and destroy an enemy airborne operation in WWII, and being the most decorated airborne battalion in the Vietnam War.
