About the Combat Infantryman Badge:
The Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is a United States Army military decoration awarded to infantrymen and Special Forces soldiers who fought in active ground combat while assigned as members of either an Infantry or Special Forces unit of brigade size or smaller. The badge is one of the Army's most prestigious awards, recognizing soldiers who have experienced the realities of ground combat firsthand.
For soldiers not assigned to infantry or Special Forces units, the Combat Action Badge (CAB) is awarded instead. For medical personnel (except Special Forces Medical Sergeants 18D), the Combat Medical Badge is the equivalent honor.
