The Story Behind the Shirt
Camp Sousley is named in honor of Marine PFC Franklin Runyon Sousley — one of the six Marines who raised the second American flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945. Born in Hill Top, Kentucky, Sousley graduated from Fleming County High School in 1943 before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines, 5th Marine Division — and became part of one of the most iconic moments in American military history. He was killed in action on March 21, 1945, weeks after the flag raising. Congress later formally recognized his service in legislation honoring his sacrifice.
About Camp Sousley
Located on 52–54 acres in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Camp Sousley is a private, nonprofit military adventure and leadership camp that operates year-round in Fleming County. The camp is not affiliated with the U.S. military, and attendance carries no obligation to enlist. Its mission is to develop leadership, build confidence, teach self-discipline, encourage teamwork, introduce young people to military careers and service, and provide challenging outdoor adventure training.
Training Programs
The flagship Military Adventure Camp delivers military-style instruction including obstacle courses, military drill and ceremony, rappelling, water survival, basic marksmanship, land navigation, leadership development, and team-building exercises — all taught by former military and law-enforcement personnel. Specialty programs have included Airborne Jump School (10,000-foot civilian parachute jumps), Cadet Sniper School, executive protection, drone operations, hostile environment training, and corporate leadership retreats.

Built from 100% polyester — strong, quick-drying, and shape-retaining. Side seams and shoulder tape deliver improved structure and fit. The ribbed knit collar with tagless finish keeps the silhouette crisp and irritation-free through every activity and wash.
Available Weights
Choose between two fabric weights — 4.0 oz/yd² for a lighter, breathable feel or 6.0 oz/yd² for added body and structure. Regular fit, true to size.
