The Ranger School is the U.S. Army’s most demanding small unit tactics and leadership course — forging warriors who can lead in close combat and direct fire battles under the most extreme conditions imaginable. Established in September 1950 at Fort Benning (now Fort Moore), Georgia, the course has changed little because excellence doesn’t need revision.
The 5th Ranger Training Battalion is the home of the Florida Phase — the Swamp Phase — where candidates face water crossings, jungle operations, and small boat tactics in the unforgiving terrain of Eglin Air Force Base. It is where Rangers are finished, not just trained.
