The United States invasion of Panama in 1989, codenamed Operation Just Cause, involved thousands of troops from all branches of the military striking nearly two dozen objectives within a 24-hour period. The operation's primary goal was to remove General Manuel Noriega, the de facto ruler of Panama, from power because he was wanted by U.S. authorities for drug trafficking and racketeering. The invasion also aimed to protect U.S. citizens, defend democracy and human rights, and uphold the Torrijos Carter treaties.
Fort Kobbe in Panama was involved in Operation Just Cause, a US military invasion of Panama that took place from December 1989 to January 1990. The operation's objectives were to protect US lives and property, and to allow the inauguration of the winners of the previous summer's elections.
