From 1975 to 1981, the 6th Battalion, 33rd Field Artillery stood ready at Fort Sill, Oklahoma — home of the U.S. Army Field Artillery — operating the MGM-52 LANCE tactical ballistic missile system. The 33rd Field Artillery Regiment, first constituted in 1918, earned its battle honors with the 1st Infantry Division in World War II before its battalions carried the fight into Vietnam.
