Regiment History

The 3rd Cavalry Regiment, formerly the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, is currently stationed at Fort Cavazos, Texas. Constituted on 19 May 1846 as the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen, it was reorganized as the 3rd U.S. Cavalry Regiment on 3 August 1861. Today, the regiment operates Stryker vehicles and carries its proud lineage as the last heavy armored cavalry regiment in the U.S. Army before transitioning in November 2011.
