Tomahawks in the Surge — Iraq 2008

The Surge was one of the most intense and consequential chapters of the Iraq War — and the Tomahawks were there, in the fight, earning the CIB the hard way.

About the 179th Infantry Regiment — Iraq Surge 2008

The 179th Infantry Regiment "Tomahawks" is the sole active infantry regiment of the Oklahoma Army National Guard, operating as a combined arms battalion under the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. During the 2008 Iraq Surge, the 179th deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom — one of the most demanding combat rotations of the war. Soldiers who earned the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) during this deployment did so under fire, in one of the most complex counterinsurgency environments in modern military history. The CIB is not awarded — it is earned.

The Tomahawks answered the call in 2008. This mug honors that answer.

An ideal gift for 179th Infantry Iraq Surge veterans, OIF combat veterans, CIB recipients, OKARNG soldiers, and military families.
