Spearhead. Steel. Fire.

The 3rd Armored Division — the Spearhead — is one of the most decorated armored divisions in United States Army history. Created in 1941 and blooded in the hedgerows and open plains of Western Europe, the Spearhead division landed on the Normandy beaches on June 28, 1944, and never stopped moving. It became the first U.S. division to enter Belgium, drove deep into Germany, and stood at the tip of the Allied advance until V-E Day.

This mug pairs the Spearhead division identity with the M109 Howitzer — the self-propelled artillery platform that gave the division its long-range fire support punch. A tribute to the armor and artillery soldiers who kept the Spearhead moving forward, round after round, mile after mile.

About the Unit

The 3rd Armored Division was created in 1941 and deployed to Western Europe in 1944. Landing at Normandy on June 28, 1944, the Spearhead division advanced rapidly through France, became the first U.S. division to enter Belgium, and drove into the heart of Germany. After WWII, the division served as a key Cold War deterrent force in West Germany, stationed at various locations including Frankfurt and Friedberg, before being inactivated in 1992 following the end of the Cold War. The M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzer provided the division’s organic artillery fire support across both its WWII combat and Cold War deterrence missions.
