Camp Casey. Tong Du Chon. Second to None.

Camp Casey, Tong Du Chon — for thousands of U.S. Army soldiers, those words mean one thing: the sharp end of the Korean Peninsula. The 2nd Infantry Division — “Second to None” — has stood watch on the Korean DMZ since the end of the Korean War, positioned forward to deter aggression and defend the Republic of Korea. Camp Casey, located near Tong Du Chon in Gyeonggi Province, was one of the division’s primary installations — close enough to the DMZ that the mission was never abstract.

The 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry (Airborne Assault) — 1-503 AASLT — brought the vertical envelopment capability of the airborne infantry to the 2nd Infantry Division’s combined arms team on the peninsula. This mug honors that service: the division, the camp, the city, and the battalion that stood ready on one of the world’s most volatile frontlines.

About the Unit

The 2nd Infantry Division — the Indianhead Division, “Second to None” — has been continuously stationed in the Republic of Korea since the Korean War armistice in 1953, serving as the U.S. Army’s primary forward-deployed ground combat force on the peninsula. Camp Casey, located near Tong Du Chon in Gyeonggi Province, served as one of the division’s key installations, positioned close to the DMZ as part of the combined U.S.–ROK defense posture. The 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry (Airborne Assault) provided the division with air assault capability, integrating rotary-wing insertion tactics into the peninsula’s combined arms defense. The 503rd Infantry Regiment traces its lineage to the storied 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment of World War II fame in the Pacific Theater.
