UNIT HISTORY
The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was established on May 15, 1942, becoming the Women's Army Corps (WAC) on July 1, 1943 — the first women's branch to serve in an active duty capacity in the U.S. Army. Under the leadership of Colonel Oveta Culp Hobby, WAC members served in every theater of the war and continued through the Cold War era. The WAC was officially disbanded on October 20, 1978, as all units were fully integrated into the U.S. Army — a testament to the lasting impact of their service.
