Unit History
Activated in May 1967, the Mobile Riverine Force (MRF) was a joint U.S. Army and U.S. Navy formation tasked with combat and transport operations throughout the Mekong Delta. Modeled after French Dinassaut doctrine from the First Indochina War, the MRF operated where conventional forces could not — on the rivers, canals, and waterways of South Vietnam. The 9th Infantry Division formed the Army component of this historic force, earning a legacy of courage and adaptability in one of the war's most challenging theaters.
