The 199th Infantry Brigade — Redcatchers
Activated in 1966 and deployed to the Republic of Vietnam, the 199th Infantry Brigade (Light) established itself as one of the Army's most battle-tested light infantry formations. Operating in the critical zone surrounding Saigon, the Redcatchers conducted relentless search-and-destroy missions, cordon operations, and night ambushes against Viet Cong and NVA forces.
During the Tet Offensive of 1968, the brigade fought house-to-house through the streets of Saigon, clearing enemy positions and restoring order to the capital under fire. Major operations—including Operation Fairfax and Operation Enterprise—defined the brigade's combat record and earned its soldiers Silver Stars, Bronze Stars, and Purple Hearts.
Inactivated in 1970 after four years of sustained combat, the 199th Infantry Brigade left behind a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and uncompromising infantry professionalism that endures to this day.
