The 11th Airborne Division participated in the post-WWII occupation of Japan by landing at Atsugi Airdrome in August 1945 and subsequently establishing control over northern Japan, including the prefectures of Akita, Yamagata, Miyagi, and Iwate. This Airborne unit, known for its role in the initial occupation efforts, was eventually responsible for securing this specific region of Japan under General Douglas MacArthur's overall command.
