8th Bn, 4th FA Regiment Specific History
- Activation and Service in Vietnam: The 8th Battalion, 4th Artillery (as it was designated during this period) arrived in the Republic of Vietnam on August 12, 1967, operating out of Dong Ha and remaining in the I Corps area for its entire service. It was an M107 175mm self-propelled gun battalion, later converting to a dual 8-inch howitzer and 175mm self-propelled gun configuration in early 1969.
- Operations: The battalion was part of the 108th Artillery Group and provided reinforcing artillery support to the U.S. Marines operating near the DMZ and Da Nang. It participated in numerous operations, including Napoleon, Saline, Kentucky, and Scotland. The unit was known for its intensive firing schedule, firing over 100,000 rounds in its first year in Vietnam.
