In 1941, the U.S. Army activated the 758th Tank Battalion — the first all-African American armored unit in U.S. military history. Armed with M5 Stuart and M24 Chaffee tanks, these men rolled into the Italian Campaign and didn't stop until they had helped breach the Gothic Line, the Germans' last major defensive fortification in Italy.
