6th United States Army - Pacific Victory

Sixth Army is a theater army of the United States Army. The Army service component command of United States Southern Command, its area of responsibility includes 31 countries and 15 areas of special sovereignty in Central and South America and the Caribbean. It is headquartered at Fort Sam Houston. The Sixth Army saw extensive service in the South Pacific during World War II, including in New Britain, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Postwar it served stateside training army forces until its inactivation during force reduction in 1995. The army was reactivated in 2007.

During World War II, the 6th United States Army, commanded by General Walter Krueger, was one of the principal field armies in the Pacific Theater. The Sixth Army fought in some of the war's most challenging campaigns, conducting amphibious assaults, jungle warfare, and island-hopping operations that drove Japanese forces back across the Pacific.

World War II - New Guinea and Philippines

The 6th Army's campaigns in New Guinea and the Philippines were among the most difficult operations of World War II. Soldiers fought in dense jungle, extreme heat and humidity, against a determined enemy who fought from fortified positions and refused to surrender. The Sixth Army conducted amphibious landings, fought through jungles and mountains, and liberated the Philippines from Japanese occupation.

The liberation of the Philippines was one of the 6th Army's greatest achievements. General Douglas MacArthur's famous return to the Philippines was made possible by the soldiers of the Sixth Army, who fought in the battles of Leyte, Luzon, and Manila. The campaign to liberate the Philippines was one of the largest and most complex operations of the Pacific War, involving hundreds of thousands of soldiers and lasting from October 1944 to August 1945.

Fort Ord - Training Excellence

After World War II, the 6th United States Army was headquartered at Fort Ord, California, where it served as a major training command. Fort Ord was one of the Army's premier training installations, where hundreds of thousands of soldiers received basic training, advanced individual training, and unit training before deploying to Korea, Vietnam, and other theaters.

Soldiers who trained at Fort Ord remember the challenging physical training, the coastal California weather, and the high standards maintained by the cadre. Fort Ord produced generations of well-trained soldiers who served with distinction around the world. The installation was closed in 1994 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure process, but its legacy lives on in the soldiers who trained there.

Whether you served with the 6th United States Army in World War II, trained at Fort Ord, or appreciate the proud heritage of Sixth Army, this apparel represents victory, training excellence, and the enduring legacy of the 6th Army.
