HISTORY

- World War I (1917-1919): Constituted as the 23rd Engineer (Road) and earned the nickname "Road Builders of the AEF" for their work in France, where they built and maintained highways, dealt with chemical warfare areas, and earned three campaign streamers: Lorraine, Saint Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne.
- World War II (1941-1945): Reactivated as part of the 3rd Armored Division, they landed on Omaha Beach and participated in five campaigns in Western Europe. Their significant contributions included creating a double-blade hedgerow cutter for tanks and constructing numerous bridges across major rivers like the Seine and the Rhine.
- Cold War (1947-1997): The battalion was active in West Germany as part of the 3rd Armored Division, undergoing various reorganizations and training exercises.
