Unit History
The 824th Bombardment Squadron was an active unit of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, assigned to the 484th Bombardment Wing. Operating B-24 Liberators out of Torretto Field, Italy, the squadron flew strategic bombing missions across Southern Europe and the Balkans as part of the 15th Air Force's campaign to cripple Axis supply lines and industrial capacity. The unit was inactivated on 25 March 1967 at Turner Air Force Base, Georgia — its legacy sealed in the annals of American airpower history.
