Now known as the 46th Artillery Group (Redstone) it had its own organic and assigned fire and support units. It was a unique organization, being one of the three such units ever to be activated in the US Army. It is the smallest unit, in strength and structure, to contain members of practically every branch of service. Among the different branches recognizable in the Group's Tables of Organization are Artillery, Engineer, Ordnance, Military Police, Signal, Adjutant General, Quartermaster, Medical Corps and Chaplain Corps. In effect it is a hard-hitting, self-sufficient task force providing "field artillery atomic missile support for a field army".
