A Vietnam combat veteran with a Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) and a DUI (Distinguished Unit Citation) from the 1st Cavalry Division served in an airmobile unit, which was the first of its kind in the U.S. Army to be deployed to Vietnam in 1965. The "First Team" used helicopters to quickly move troops, conduct resupply, and execute combat operations in difficult terrain. The division participated in numerous campaigns and received multiple unit decorations, including the Presidential Unit Citation, for its actions throughout the war.
