The 25th Infantry Regiment was a Buffalo Soldier regiment that was organized at Jackson Barracks, Louisiana, in April 1868, composed of seasoned Union Army veterans from the 39th and 40th Infantry Regiments. After a brief time at Jackson Barracks, the regiment moved to the Texas frontier where they served in the Indian Wars. The regiment has a long history, including service in the American Indian Wars, the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, and World War II.
