Women Marines – Marine Corps Women’s Reserve – World War II
When the nation called, they answered — not as support, but as soldiers of the Corps. The Marine Corps Women’s Reserve was established in February 1943, and by war’s end more than 23,000 women had served, freeing male Marines for combat duty around the world. They were the first women to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps in any capacity other than as nurses. They wore the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor with fierce pride.
