In 1942, the U.S. Navy made a decision that changed the face of American military service: women were needed, and the WAVES answered the call. Over 86,000 women served as WAVES during World War II — working as cryptologists, air traffic controllers, instructors, and intelligence analysts. They didn’t wait on the sidelines. They stepped forward, qualified, and served with distinction in every role they were assigned.
