The 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (502nd PIR), later the 502nd Infantry Regiment, is a unit of the U.S. Army with a distinguished history, particularly during World War II. It was initially established as a parachute infantry regiment and became part of the 101st Airborne Division. The regiment saw significant action in the European Theater during WWII, including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, it was reorganized and has since served in various conflicts, including Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Currently, its battalions are part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
