The 502nd Infantry Regiment, nicknamed "The Deuce", is a distinguished unit of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Activated in 1941 as a parachute infantry battalion, it later became the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, playing a vital role in World War II, particularly in Normandy, Operation Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, the regiment was reorganized and has since served in various conflicts, including Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan.
