121ST INFANTRY REGIMENT
The 121st Infantry Regiment's lineage can be traced back to 1810, when the Albany Guards, Barnesville Blues, Baldwin Blues, and Floyd Rifles were formed as the first organized infantry militia units in Georgia. The Macon Volunteers were also organized in 1825, and detachments from these units served in the Seminole and Mexican Wars.

Here are some other important events in the 121st Infantry Regiment's history:

  • 1860
The Independent Volunteer Battalion of Macon was organized, which included the Macon Volunteers and the Floyd Rifles.

  • 1874
The 2nd Battalion was reorganized as part of the Georgia Volunteers, which would later become the Georgia National Guard.

  • 1916
The 2nd Regiment of Infantry was mobilized for federal service and sent to the Mexican border.

  • 1917–1955
The 121st Infantry Regiment had three infantry battalions that were deployed to France during both World Wars and were part of the Georgia National Guard's post-World War II reorganization.

  • 1946
The 121st Infantry was relieved from the 8th Infantry Division and assigned to the 48th Infantry Division.

  • 1955
The 121st Infantry was reorganized and redesignated as Company C, 121st Armored Infantry Battalion, which was part of the 48th Armored Division.

  • 1968
The 121st Infantry was converted and redesignated as Company D, 560th Engineer Battalion, and was relieved from the 48th Armored Division. The 3rd Battalion was also inactivated after the 48th Armor Division was lost in 1968.

The 121st Infantry has also served in Bosnia Herzegovina, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
