The 50th Infantry Division, also known as the 50th Northumbrian Infantry Division, was created in 1939 as part of the British Territorial Army. It saw its first combat in France and Belgium and played a significant role during D-Day on 6 June 1944, landing as one of the assault formations under XXX Corps. The division fought throughout the Normandy campaign and later participated in Operation Market Garden. After the war, it was reorganized and eventually moved to Norway in 1945.
