The history of the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, nicknamed "First Strike," begins with its activation as a parachute battalion in July 1941, becoming part of the 101st Airborne Division in 1942. Its most significant World War II actions include the D-Day invasion of Normandy, where it was critically important to securing the objectives. During the Vietnam War, the battalion was involved in ground operations after deploying to South Vietnam in December 1967.
