Originally serving as the 142nd Infantry Regiment of the 36th Infantry Division during World War I, the 180th Infantry Regiment went on to serve with the legendary 45th Infantry Division — the Thunderbirds — through World War II and the Korean War, and later with the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan and Iraq. Headquartered in McAlester, Oklahoma and redesignated as the 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry in 2008, this unit is one of the oldest and most decorated in the brigade.

Unit History
The 180th Infantry Regiment (redesignated 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry in 2008) is headquartered in McAlester, Oklahoma and is part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma Army National Guard. One of the oldest units in the brigade, it served in World War I as the 142nd Infantry Regiment of the 36th Infantry Division, and in World War II and the Korean War as part of the 45th Infantry Division, and again in Afghanistan and Iraq with the 45th Infantry Brigade.
