All American Division Heritage
The 82nd Airborne Division earned its "All American" nickname in 1917, when its soldiers came from all 48 states then in the Union. One of the Army's first two airborne divisions, it made its first combat jump in Sicily in July 1943 and fought through Normandy, Operation Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge. Today the division remains an active airborne force based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, carrying its World War II legacy from WWII to now.
