Seabees in Desert Storm
During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm (1990-1991), Navy Seabees deployed to the Persian Gulf region to provide critical construction and engineering support. Seabee battalions built forward operating bases, constructed ammunition supply points, established water purification systems, repaired airfields, and cleared mines and obstacles. Their rapid construction capabilities enabled the massive coalition buildup and the swift ground campaign that liberated Kuwait in just 100 hours of combat operations.
The Naval Construction Force Legacy
The United States Naval Construction Battalions—better known as the Navy Seabees—form the U.S. Naval Construction Force (NCF). The Seabee nickname is a heterograph of the first letters "CB" from Construction Battalion. Since World War II, Seabees have served in every major conflict, building the infrastructure of American military power worldwide. Their motto "Construimus, Batuimus" (We Build, We Fight) and unofficial motto "Can Do!" reflect their dual role as builders and warriors.
